Curriculum

Learning occurs as a child experiences things for themselves, therefore, our home like

environment facilitates a wealth of opportunities for children to explore, investigate and develop their skills independently and naturally with support and guidance from our highly skilled staff team. Our planned experiences are based on children’s interests and needs with plenty of opportunity for spontaneous and open ended play.

The following two curriculum frameworks guide our curriculum approach:

· Effective Early Learning and Development (Pre-birth to 3years)

· A Curriculum for Excellence

Pre-birth to 3 years

This supports our youngest children and sets out four features for effective practice:

· Relationships, Emotional Well-being and Social Competence

· Communication

· Curiosity

· Movement and Co-ordination

Curriculum for Excellence

The underpinning values are for this are wisdom, justice, compassion and integrity with the child at the centre of learning.

The purpose of the curriculum is to enable the children to develop the ‘four capacities’ to become:

· Successful Learners

· Confident Individuals

· Responsible citizens

· Effective contributors

The curriculum has an unlimited scope for development and personal achievement through active learning . Experiences and outcomes are categorised into eight areas of learning:

· Expressive Arts

· Language and literacy

· Health and Well-being

· Mathematics and numeracy

· Religious and moral education

· Sciences

· Social studies

· Technologies
